All season long United’s stars have had some extra incentive to get above the rim and throw down some huge slams.
Across the season, each time Melbourne hammers home a dunk, DoorDash has donated 500 meals to Foodbank Victoria to help support Australians living with food insecurity.
Thanks to DoorDash, that means MU’s 32 dunks have resulted in 16,000 meals being donated this season.
While this has been an awesome contribution, United is calling on its fans to help support even more people in need through a Food Drive at their Open Air Game on the23rd of December.
United will begetting the ball rolling by donating a range of food and goods, and hope their amazing fans will follow suit. Additionally, the DoorDash Dunk team will be in action at half time of the game contributing to this season’s dunks total and pushing the contributions well past 16,000 meals donated.
Fans are encouraged to bring items to donate to the game, such as canned fruit, vegetables, seafood, soups and meals. See a full list of what items are acceptable for donation here.
Ahead of the Food Drive, Melbourne United CEO, Nick Truelson touched on the importance of the initiative.
"Our purpose at Melbourne United is to use the power of basketball to enrich the lives of our community, and this includes using our platform to help those in difficult living situations,” he said.
“Our partnership with DoorDash and Foodbank has been amazing this season, adding an extra boost of excitement for everyone within our club each time our guys throw down a slam dunk.
“We hope that through this Food Drive and our partnership with DoorDash, we can generate some much-needed help for Foodbank Victoria, which does such important work within our community.”
